Royal Ontario Museum
The Royal Ontario Museum can be counted among the world’s top museums of natural history and world cultures, and is one of the largest museums in North America. Galleries and exhibitions cover everything from ancient cultures, biodiversity, fossils, evolution, world art and culture.
National Gallery of Canada
Canada’s capital is home to the National Gallery of Canada. The gallery is home to 36,000 works of art and 125,000 images of contemporary photography. Their collection of Canadian art is the most comprehensive in the world.
Royal Alberta Museum
The Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton is one of Canada’s most popular museums and includes exhibits for all ages and interests. Permanent exhibits include the Natural History gallery, Syncrude Gallery of Aboriginal culture and Wild Alberta gallery.
Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology
Alberta’s Royal Tyrrell Museum is Canada’s only museum dedicated exclusively to the science of paleontology. It also happens to house one of the world’s largest displays of dinosaurs. The prehistoric past is brought to life through the museum’s unique collection of galleries and exhibits
Art Gallery of Ontario
Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario was founded in 1900 as the Art Museum of Toronto. It is now one of the largest art museums in North America and houses more than 80,000 works of art. The collection is comprised of European masterpieces, Canadian art and contemporary art.
Museum of Anthropology at UBC
Vancouver’s Museum of Anthropology was founded in 1949 and is now Canada’s largest teaching museum. The goal of its exhibits and programs is to provide insight into the cultures of indigenous peoples around the world. The museum houses more than 38,000 ethnographic objects and 535,000 archaeological objects.
Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
The Montreal museum of Fine Arts gets over one million visitors each year making it one of the most popular museums in the country. Collections include archaeology, world culture, photography, graphic arts, Quebec and Canadian art, early to modern international art, decorative arts and design and international contemporary art.
Canadian Museum of Nature
Ottawa is also home to the Canadian Museum of Nature. The 24 major science collections at the museum cover botany, vertebrates, invertebrates and the earth sciences. 10 million specimens have been gathered over 150 years and cover four billion years of the earth’s history.
