Colourful Campeche, Mexico located in the western part of the Yucatan Peninsula offers a unique alternative to crowded beaches and resorts. If you want to see a quieter, less tourist-trodden part of Mexico, Campeche is worth a visit.

Baroque Spanish architecture, buildings painted in pretty pastel hues and a waterfront made for strolling all contribute to the city’s charm. Campeche is also a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to the many buildings of historical value. The city has been steadily restoring its stately buildings to their original splendor, so much so that Campeche is one of the most photogenic cities in all of Mexico.

In addition to its architectural charm, Campeche is also the only walled city in Mexico, with 500 metres of walls, two doors, two forts and eight bastions.

Take a closer look at Campeche and all it has to offer with our photos of the must-see city.
